Hidden within the sprawling capital city of Delhi are settlement colonies in areas like Khadar, Mangolpuri and Badarpur among others where marginalized youth are exposed to various health risks. Limited access combined with limited knowledge is hampering their background.
But things are changing. From the year 2010, AstraZeneca, an OPPI member company, brought to these areas an initiative that has been deployed successfully around the world. The Young Health Program (YHP) focuses on primary prevention of common Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD’s) like type 2 diabetes, cancer, heart and respiratory issues. To do this, YHP targets various risk factors like tobacco use, alcohol abuse, unhealthy eating and lack of exercise.
Through its constant efforts, YHP has so far benefited over 2 lakh youngsters in and around New Delhi. Slowly but surely, are building a generation of healthier individuals.
