For a few differently abled individuals, adjusting to society can be challenging and at times intimidating. Due to their condition, they need to be monitored regularly, which can in turn be challenging for their families, especially when their parents become older and need support. In such situations, places like Adhar offer hope.
Adhar, a long-term living facility/residential centre in the outskirts of Mumbai, provides support to the aged parents of 200 mentally challenged adults. The facility is supported by Johnson & Johnson, an OPPI member company. The facility provides complete physical and psychology relief to these parents. Many residents do not have the financial means to pay for their stay and Adhar subsidizes it so that they can get the care they need. Institutions like Adhar ensure that everyone gets access to the right care, so that they can live their lives with dignity.
